ADVANTAGES OF A COMPUTER
1.      It is used for communication and storage of data. 
  1. Computers makes it possible to receive, supply and process large volumes of data at very high speed and in a very short time.
  2. Computer ensures consistent and error free processing of data. However it should be noted the error free processing is subject to correct feeding of data and correct programming.
  3. computers plays a big role in manufacturing of many other physical products. For example, a computerized insta-paint system, scans the colour of any surface and produces a paint of exactly matching colour and shade.
5.      Many organizations use computers for keeping the records of their customers. Example, Banks use computers for maintaining accounts and managing financial transactions. The banks also provides the facility of online banking. The customers can check their account balance from using the internet. They can also make financial transaction online. The transactions are handled easily and quickly with computerized systems.   
6.      Computer can be used as a great educational tool. Students can have access to all sort of information on the internet.







DISADVANTAGES
1.      our dependence on them. We now depend on the computers for many things.
  1. Computers are highly dependent on the quality of input data fed to it.
  2. The task of programming a computer for a computer application is very costly and time consuming. This reduces the utility of computers for applications that are non-repetitive.
  3. Computer systems are rather rigid. Once a computers system is designed and programmed, making even minor corrections or improvements can be quite costly and time consuming. For this reason a great care is required in design and development of computer systems.
  4. Computers require use of sophisticated equipment and support facilities. For example, a person solving a problem of maths using just a pen and paper can carry these with him or her anywhere with ease. However if the same problem is to be solved using a computer, the person will not only need access to a suitable computer, it will also be necessary to have the required software and suitable electric power to run the computer.
6.      Different tasks are performed automatically by using computers. It reduces the need of people and increases unemployment in society.
7.      And it has adverse effects on the social life of many, as they spend a lot of time on it, chatting, watching movies, listening to songs and playing games.
8.      The data stored on a computer can be accessed by unauthorized persons through networks. It has created serious problems for the data security.
9.      The computer manufacturing processes and computer waste are polluting the environment. The wasted parts of computer can release dangerous toxic materials. Green computer is a method to reduce the electricity consumed and environmental waste generated when using a computer. It includes recycling and regulating manufacturing processes. The used computers must be donated or disposed off properly.
